Habersham County commissioners listen as Trudy Wade voices her dissatisfaction over having only two county polling locations on election day.
The Soque Scenic Byway may have taken center stage during Monday night’s Habersham County Commission meeting but it wasn’t the only item on the agenda.
Trudy Wade spoke to the commission about her dissatisfaction with only two polling locations on election day. The County Commission is awaiting a report and recommendation from the Elections Board. Commissioner Sonny James has expressed on several occasions that he believes there should be at least one polling location in each of Habersham’s five districts.

Habersham E-911 Center Director Lynn Smith was recognized by commissioners for being re-elected as Secretary for the Emergency Management Association of Georgia. She was received the President’s Award for her service.
Commissioners approved the renewal of 10 beer and wine applications. A new application from Apple Mountain Resort to serve beer and wine in the Grille was also approved. The county also agreed to sell a Crown Victoria car to the Aiport Authority and approved a memo of understanding between the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension and the board. Commissioners also appointed County Manager, Phil Sutton, to the position of County Legislative Coordinator. Appointments for several other positions were tabled.
The county commission approved an ammendment to the Reeve’s construction contract for the parallel taxiway at the airport. Lewis Canup and James Miorin also reported to commissioners that the construction at the Airport is proceeding as planned.
Good news was reported again from the hospital. Habersham Medical Center continues to operate in the black. A report from the Hospital Authority says work is continuing to improve the hospital’s overall performance. HMC recently was recognized by US News and World Report for excellence in stroke care.
