How do you spell relief? W-I-N, and that’s just what the Habersham Central Raiders did in front of a bundled up, pumped up home crowd at Raider Stadium Friday night.
The Raiders snapped their two year losing streak, crushing the Raiders of North Forsyth 32-7.
The HCHS Raiders got out of the gate first just three minutes into the game when RB Jeremy Jones rushed 10 yards for a touchdown. The Raiders missed the extra point, locking their lead at 6-0. Then, HCHS scored again. QB Bennett Black connected with WR Mason Kinsey on a 68-yard touchdown pass. A failed 2-point conversion left the Raiders leading 12-0 at the end of the first.
And the HCHS Raiders kept on raiding.
Midway through the second quarter Habersham Central’s RB Michael Babers rushed 10 yards for the team’s third touchdown of the game putting Central up 18-0. Another failed 2-point conversion left them there until Babers struck again, this time, on a 1-yard rushing TD with under a minute left in the third quarter. Alex Alvarado nailed the field goal, pushing Habersham Central to a 25-0 lead at the half.
The shutout didn’t last.
The North Forsyth Raiders came back from halftime to score just two minutes into the third. They quickly moved the ball downfield, setting up QB Jacob Bailey for a 1-yard run into the end zone. That TD and extra point were the only points the North Forsyth Raiders would score. Habersham Central’s defense held while Central’s offense continued to roll. Late in the third with under a minute to go Marcus Wilbanks rushed 40 yards for a touchdown, sealing North Forsyth’s defeat 32-7 and handing the HCHS Raiders their first win of the season and first win in 22 games.
