Jimmy Dale Allen, Sr., age 67 of Demorest, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 20, 2016.
Born in Clarkesville, Georgia on August 25, 1948, he was a son of the late J. Lee & Euna Belle Allen. Mr. Allen served his country proudly in the United States Navy for four years and then retired from the United States Forestry Service after 30 years of service. Mr. Allen was truly passionate about his career and touched many people during his years with the Forestry Service as well as Law Enforcement. He was very loving husband, father, and papa. Mr. Allen was a member of the Oakey Mountain Baptist Church where he was currently serving as Chairman of the deacons.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances Kennedy, Elaine Lawson, & brother, Rex Allen.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 49 years, Betty Jane Chastain Allen, of Demorest; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Dale Allen, Jr. & June Cornett Allen of Clarkesville, Chris & Wendi Wilson Allen of Demorest; daughter, Melanie Allen of Alto; grandchildren, Cody Allen of Hiawassee, Eli Allen & Brooke Allen, both of Clarkesville, Jonathon Cochran, Mason Allen, Jackson Allen, all of Demorest, Aceline Mendenhall of Alto; brother and sister-in-law, Verner & Mary Jane Kennedy, sister and brother-in-law, Barbara & Lloyd Barron, all of Demorest; special uncle, Paul Allen of Demorest, several nieces, nephews, other relatives, & a host of friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2016 from the Oakey Mountain Baptist Church with Pastor Brion Williams and Pastor Tim Holcomb officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post # 7720, Habersham County American Legion Post # 84, Rabun County DAV Chapter # 15, and the United States Navy.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 until 5 p.m. & 7 until 9 p.m. on Sunday.
