Bellevue, WA – HERO Sports has announced Piedmont College’s ALLEN TOKARZ as one of ten players in the country to be nominated for the D3 Baseball Fan Choice Award with voting beginning Wednesday, May 18 and continuing through Monday, May 23. Voting ends at 3:00 pm on May 23 with fans being asked to cast their vote once again in a HERO Sports fan voting contest.
Piedmont’s Lady Lion basketball team won the HERO Sports Team of the Month Fan Vote for January earlier this year as one of five nominees up for the honor from across the nation. At that time, the team was on fire winning 12 straight starting on December 19including a home vistory over then #12 Maryville College.
Tokarz’ nomination for the honor comes as no surprise to those around the Piedmont baseball program over the last few years as the pitcher made his name marking up the record books. As HERO Sports put it in their nomination paragraph:
“Every year in MLB, there seems to be at least one relief pitcher who gets consideration for the Cy Young Award. Well, here’s the D3 version.” -HERO Sports
Tokarz is currently ranked 2nd in the country in appearances but led the nation for much of the year finishing with 27 as Hampden-Sydney’s Dylan Gonzales just recently passed the mark with his 28th.
Most recently named the Senior Most-Outstanding Student-Athlete at this year’s Senior Awards Ceremony, Tokarz was second this season in ERA with a 2.08 mark and was also top ten as a reliever in wins with five competing with most of the league’s usual starters in that column.
Additionally, Tokarz finished 18th in the league in strikeouts with 43 and also fielded his position without an error in 2016 for a perfect 1.000 mark.
It’s the fifth time that HERO Sports has selected Piedmont for its weekly, monthly, or annual fan votes as CASSIDY REICH of the Piedmont College women’s soccer team was twice up for National Player of the Week winning the second vote and earning a nomination to Legend of the Year voting.
