Candidates for Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney are George Christian, the incumbent, and Bruce Russell, Jr. The responsibilities of Habersham District Attorney are: to serve as the prosecuting attorney for Superior Court, the prosecution of all criminal cases involving at least one felony, and may also pursue certain civil actions such as RICO (Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) drug, gambling and bond forfeitures. The District Attorney may also carry out other judicial responsibilities.
George Christian, the incumbent District Attorney, is a veteran of the US Navy, a graduate of University of Georgia and Mercer Law School, and began he career as a prosecutor. He has been an Assistant District Attorney, Chief of the Houston County DA Office, the US Attorney’s Office in Macon, where he had extensive experience prosecuting federal criminals. He has mentored other attorneys and followed Brian Rickman in Habersham County.
Bruce Russell, Jr., is a Rabun County native, a graduate of University of Colorado, and Mercer Law School in Macon. He has been a criminal defense attorney in Rabun and Habersham Counties. He is a US Navy veteran, and worked on a search and seizure team on he high seas. He has had criminal justice experience in the Atlanta Metropolitan area and feels his lengthy work in defense justice will enhance his ability to serve as a prosecuting District Attorney.
