Piedmont Lady Lions Earn Regional Berth, Playing Berry College

The Lady Lions’ season is not over just yet as the Piedmont College softball team earned a regional berth for the 2016 NCAA Tournament announced during today’s selection show.

Piedmont will head to Rome, Georgia to take on Berry College in the opening game on Friday, May 13 as the Vikings post a record of 36-6 while Piedmont finished the season 29-13.

Piedmont heads to the national tournament after winning the USA South Conference Regular Season title going 16-4 in conference play. The Vikings have won their last 15 games including the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship Tournament earning the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Also joining the Lady Lions at Berry College will be Emory University and Birmingham-Southern College who will play one another in the opening round of play. The Eagles were 40-4 this season and winners of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship while the Panthers were 36-8 finishing as runners up in the SAA Tournament behind Berry.
