Four local athletes participated in the MLB Jr. Home Run Derby regionals in Stone Mountain, GA on Sunday, May 1.
After qualifying in the local division held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Diamond Memorial Fields in Clarkesville, GA, the four advanced to the Home Run Derby regionals in their respective age categories. Jack Roberts and Sutton Dover participated in the 14U age bracket while Corbin Loudermilk and Landen LaPrade participated in the12U age bracket.
“Habersham County Little League is proud of our athletes and the talent they bring to the field,” shares Christan Tanner, HCLL Board President, “and we excited to provide this type of opportunity for our community.”
While the boys’ journey concluded at regionals, their performance is to be commended.
The Jr. Home Run Derby, sponsored by Major League Baseball, is a home run hitting contest. Following in the footsteps of The MLB Home Run Derby sponsored by Gilliette and Head & Shoulders which began in 1985 as a precursor to the MLB All-Star Game, this new program provides an opportunity for athletes across the country to demonstrate their talent. The finals of the MLB Jr. Home Run Derby will be televised from PETCO Park in San Diego, CA on Sunday, July 10, 2016.
