And It Is…

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” Hebrews 4:12.

The Bible is like no other book. As an avid reader, I’ve learned that a few books are worth reading a second time, maybe a third. When I was 13, I read the entire Walter Farley series The Black Stallion three times. I’ve read A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens more times than I can count. Jane Austen books to ad nauseum; the classics because I taught school; and Anne of Green Gables.

But the Bible is uniquely written because it is meant to be read repeatedly. It is the best selling book of all times and the Word changes according to our circumstance. It seems impossible, but true. Because God’s Word is alive, it speaks to us at just the right time in our lives. Deuteronomy 29:29 tells us, “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”

God reveals to us just the right scripture when He believes we need to hear it and apply it to our lives. His wisdom is far greater than we can understand and He knows what our soul desires.

Reading the Bible is never the same. I hear quite often, even from seasoned readers, “I never saw that phrase before.”

“I never thought of that scripture in that way.”

Take the time to study God’s Word every day. Challenge yourself to read the Bible cover to cover. There will be parts you do not understand. There will be parts extremely difficult to get through. There will be parts that speak so directly to you, you’ll feel it is written specifically for you that day.

And it is.
