What Instrument Do You Play?

Ahhh, the symphony. My husband and I attended the Atlanta Symphony last night with his brother and brother’s wife. For me, the spine-tingling performance united operatic soloist voices with a full choir and an orchestra. I watched intently as the crispness of the choir responded to the wave of the director’s motion and with a nod of his head the violinists followed. Remembering how the individual practicing cellists all seem out of sync before the performance started, now even the cello bows rhythmically move in the same direction. It all came together to deliver a sound which moved the audience to tears.

My heart thought of God. We each play a part in His story of Creation. We each have a role that is specific to us; and yet, we often try to play our own notes. I imagined if the harpist determined she wanted to speed things up or the flutist chose to break all rules and play Mozart instead of Brahms. The sound would not only be horrendous, but all those involved would suffer. God has called us to work together as a unit for the benefit of His Kingdom.

Our music score? The Bible… Our Director? God… Our instruments? His gifts to us… Our purpose? Only God knows, it’s His Story.

Today, choose to be an instrument in His Kingdom. Choose to follow His direction.
