Virgil Ronald “Ron” Trotman

Virgil Ronald “Ron” Trotman, age 76, died on February 1, 2016 after an extended illness.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, William A. Trotman; his mother, Christabel Trotman; his step-mother, Hazel Trotman; and two sisters, Mary Jo Gomillion and Dortha Arceneaux.

Ron is survived by his wife, Dorothy McClain Trotman; sons, Virgil Ronald Trotman, Jr. (Katharine) and Jeffrey Ryan Trotman (Mary); one granddaughter, Emily Katharine Trotman; six grandsons, John Patrick Trotman, Charles Lewis Trotman, Benjamin Michael Trotman, Nathan Alexander Trotman, William Gladstone Trotman, and David Alexander Trotman.

Ron was born in Clarkesville, Georgia on May 5, 1939. He was a 1957 graduate of Toccoa High School and earned degrees from Truett-McConnell College, Furman University, and Auburn University. He was president of the student body at Truett-McConnell and was a member of the marching band and orchestra at Furman. He served as president of the Truett-McConnell Alumni Association and was recognized as 2010 Outstanding Alumnus.

Lieutenant Colonel Trotman retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1983. In addition to tours at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, AL, he served in Texas, Bitburg Germany, West Virginia, and southeast Asia during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star.

After retiring from the Air Force, he was an entrepreneur with an ice cream business, sold real estate, and worked as a property manager for ALFA Insurance.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL, for more than 45 years. He loved singing in the sanctuary choir, serving as a Deacon, and teaching Sunday School.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at 10:30 am at First Baptist Church of Montgomery, with Rev. Jay Wolf officiating. The family will receive visitors in Toccoa at Ebenezer Baptist Church family life center between noon and 1:30 on Friday, February 5, with interment at 2:00 pm in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
