(Cleveland)- The White County Board of Education Thursday night was presented with a first draft of new attendance lines for the elementary schools beginning this fall. Transportation Director Pat Schofill told the board, they wanted to keep the Mt. Yonah and Mossy Creek school districts close to what it is now, so they concentrated on the Intermediate and Jack P. Nix schools and how they could divide them.
He said it became apparent at the beginning that they could use the Appalachian Parkway (Bypass) as a border. There were some changes made at some of the border areas between the different school systems and parents where those changes were made are expected to be contacted by the schools to inform them about the changes.
Superintendent Dr. Jeff Wilson told the board, “Once we kind of settle and people seem to be okay, we’re going to send letters to everybody and say ‘Here’s where you’re assigned’ before we come and ask for a final vote. So people can really feel like they can come and talk they can talk to us at the community meetings, they can come speak at a board meeting.”
Dr. Wilson emphasized that this is a draft and changes could be made as they continue to work on the plan.
