Downer Sentencing Postponed

Convicted murderer William Downer will have to wait a few more days to find out his fate. He was scheduled to be sentenced on January 22 but that was postponed due to the weather. He’s now scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, January 28.

The 54-year old Downer was convicted of felony murder, armed robbery, burglary and aggravated assault last week in connection with the 2012 murder of Michael Larry Hill. Prosecutors say Downer and another man, Albert Brown, disposed of Hill’s body by burning it at a residence on Ayres Road in Mt. Airy.

According to the District Attorney’s office sentencing is now set for 9 a.m. Thursday in the Habersham County Superior Courtroom of Chief Judge Russell W. “Rusty” Smith.
