(Helen)- An Appalachian Trail hiker who was injured had to be rescued by emergency personnel Thursday. White County Public Safety spokeswoman Ana Newberry said, White County Fire Services, Helen Fire Department and White County Emergency Medical Service were dispatched Thursday around noon to the Appalachian Trail, in the Andrews Cove area north of Helen.
Due to the victims location it took some time for personnel to reach his location. Newberry said, firefighters and EMS set up two teams with team 1 hiking a couple of miles on Andrews Cove Road and team 2 hiked a couple of miles, then used an ATV vehicle on Tray Mountain to Indian Graveyard Gap.
According to Newberry, It took rescue personnel two hours to reach the injured hiker where he was treated by medical personnel and then placed on the ATV and transported to the waiting ambulance for transport to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
The entire operation took a total of four hours. No other injuries were reported, said Newberry.
