Aycock Running for Clarkesville Mayor

Clarkesville Mayor Barrie Aycock

Clarkesville City Councilwoman Barrie Aycock is giving up her seat on the council to run for mayor. Aycock made the announcement Monday. She’s running to fill the unexpired term of Dr. Terry Greene who died in December.

In making her announcement, Aycock said, “No one could possibly “fill the shoes” vacated by Dr. Terry Greene.  He was a huge presence and a strong leader in Clarkesville and all of Habersham County for many years.” She added, “I have agreed to be a candidate to fill this position because I believe it is vital that we maintain continuity within the leadership of the City as we complete the rebuilding of our fire damaged buildings, and work towards implementing our Master Plan for downtown.”

Aycock was elected to the Clarkesville City Council in 2013. She says she’ll resign her seat effective January 27, the day qualifying for the mayor’s race begins.
