Autopsy Tuesday in Shooting Death of Clarkesville Mayor

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has scheduled an autopsy tomorrow on the body of Clarkesville Mayor, Dr. Terry Greene. The 53-year old Greene died late Sunday after being shot in the head at his home following a domestic dispute.

The GBI’s Cleveland Regional Office is handling the death investigation and issued a press release late Monday stating:

“The investigation began as a shooting incident that resulted from a reported domestic disturbance at the residence between Mayor Greene and his wife Anne Greene.”

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. Sunday at the Greene’s house on Asbury Street in Clarkesville. When authorities arrived they say they found Dr. Greene lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head. He initially survived and was transported to Habersham Medical Center. He was then transported to Atlanta Medical Center where Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire says he died around 10:23 p.m. on December 13th.

Dr. Greene’s body was taken to the GBI’s Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur, GA. An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted on December 15th.

The GBI release says the investigation is “active and ongoing” and, as a result, “no additional details are available for release.”
