CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — An apparent misunderstanding over a 911 call triggered a large police response near the Tom Arrendale Interchange Monday evening, but investigators say there is no threat to the public.

Habersham County deputies rushed to a business on Toccoa Highway shortly after 5 p.m. after a third-party caller reported what they believed was a carjacking. When deputies arrived, they secured the scene and began investigating.

Authorities now say the situation was a domestic violence incident — not a carjacking — and the caller misinterpreted what they saw before contacting emergency dispatchers.

The sheriff’s office says charges are pending. No additional details have been released as the investigation continues.
