Demorest Woman Killed in Weekend Wreck Identified

The Georgia State Patrol has identified the woman killed in a weekend wreck in Cornelia.

Officials say 38-year old Bobbie Lee Burns of Demorest died after being thrown from her vehicle in a crash at the intersection of Level Grove Road and GA 365.

The accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Burns was traveling south on GA 365 when she attempted to merge into the right hand lane and “misjudged the clearance.” The rear of her 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee clipped the left front fender of a Kia Optima driven by 33-year old Stephanie Davis Free of Gainesville. The impact sent Burns’ vehicle into an uncontrolled spin causing it to overturn across the southbound exit ramp to Level Grove Road and ejecting her before striking a tree and catching on fire.

Burns was transported to Habersham County Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
