Georgia Power reported that nearly 900 people were initially without power following the incident. Crews restored electrical service by early afternoon. However, it took longer to reopen the road because of the large amount of debris that had to be cleared.

Cornelia Police alerted the public to the road hazard early on the morning of May 28, cautioning the community about the extended road closure.
