Georgia State Patrol has released preliminary findings of a Jackson County school bus accident that injured five students Monday morning, May 12. GSP’s report states the bus veered off the road before it crashed.
Troopers were called by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the incident, which occurred on Holiday Cemetery Road. The investigation revealed that the bus, carrying 33 students, was traveling south when it failed to stay in its proper lane.
The vehicle left the roadway on the west shoulder, striking several trees before coming to an uncontrolled stop.
Emergency services responded to the scene, and five students were transported for medical treatment.
Jackson County School System officials say they “will not have any additional comment” besides what’s “already been released.”
The state patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash, and authorities have not yet disclosed what might have led to the wreck.
