Last week, the Crime Scene Unit from Banks County joined forces with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office for a collaborative, hands-on training session aimed at strengthening crime scene investigation skills and interagency cooperation.
Hosted by Forsyth County, the day-long session featured rotating workstations where investigators honed critical forensic techniques, including shoe impression casting, advanced photography methods and the intricate process of capturing latent prints on reflective surfaces like glass.
The training was organized by Crime Scene Supervisor Katrina Willis and Malaika Moore, her counterpart in Forsyth County. Their coordinated effort provided both teams with valuable opportunities to refresh specialized skills that may not be used at every crime scene but remain vital for thorough and accurate investigations, officials say.
In addition to field exercises, participants met with Forsyth’s Property and Evidence team to exchange best practices and discuss procedures—further strengthening the collaborative ties between the two agencies.
Officials say the joint trainings underscore a shared commitment to professional development and efficient, high-quality crime scene processing across county lines.
