On Saturday, May 3, the Grant-Reeves VFW Post #7720 in conjunction with the Habersham County Emergency Services will hold CPR Classes free of charge. Classes begin at 9 a.m. and will last until 12 p.m.
Learning CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is crucial because it equips individuals with the skills to respond effectively during life-threatening emergencies, such as cardiac arrest. When someone’s heart stops beating, immediate CPR can double or even triple their chances of survival by maintaining vital blood flow to the brain and other organs until professional medical help arrives.
Since emergencies can happen anywhere—at home, at work, or in public—having more people trained in CPR increases the likelihood that a bystander will be able to act quickly and confidently. Ultimately, learning CPR empowers individuals to save lives and make a meaningful difference in their communities.
There is also an opportunity to donate blood at the Blood Drive from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. You are not required to donate blood in order to take the CPR classes for free.
Donating blood is a simple yet powerful act that can save lives. Every donation has the potential to help up to three people in need, whether they’re undergoing surgery, battling cancer, recovering from a traumatic injury, or managing chronic conditions like anemia. Blood cannot be manufactured, so hospitals and patients rely entirely on the generosity of donors to maintain a steady supply.
The process is safe, relatively quick, and often takes less than an hour, but its impact is long-lasting. By giving blood, donors contribute directly to their communities and play a critical role in supporting public health and emergency preparedness.
