Rebecca Churchwell Yearwood, age 72, of Clarkesville, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
Born on December 9, 1952, in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie and Edith Gibson Churchwell. For many years, Rebecca was a private duty RN, who cared for many of the sick in her community. In addition to her caregiving, she will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother, who enjoyed shopping and fishing trips. The attached picture was taken during her final fishing trip, the day before the onset of her last illness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry Murphy and “Chubb” Cochran; daughter, Sonia Whitmire; and brothers, Jessie Churchwell, Jr., and Jerry Lee Churchwell.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, William and Katie Gooch; grandchildren Brianna Gooch, Devin Gooch, Jessica Garrett Bouldin, Kimberly Garrett, Andi Simpson Via, and Amber Simpson; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Jane Collins; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services are 2 pm on Friday, May 2, 2025, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire with Rev. Chris Anderson and Rev. Austin Ivester officiating. Interment will follow the service in Demorest City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the funeral home.
