Billy Joe Barrett

Billy Joe Barrett, age 82, of Baldwin, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Born on March 26, 1943, in Jackson County, he was a son of the late Grady and Mattie Parr Barrett. Billy Joe will be remembered by his community for his many years of dedicated service to Whitfield Funeral Homes, where he began his employment on Memorial Day of 1971. His career spanned 50 years, working at both the South and North Chapels. For 25 of those years, he was also employed with Fieldale Farms Corporation. Billy Joe’s family will remember him as the best Dad and Papa, not only to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, but to all their friends as well. For a number of years, he attended Alto Congregational Holiness Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Smith Barrett; children, Sheena Weaver and Scott Stephens; brothers and sister-in-law, Donnie, James, Jimmy, and Rev. Johnny Barrett (Drucilla); sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce Thompson (Doug), Mildred Philyaw (George), and Betty Williamson (Jerry).

Survivors include his children and their, Brandon Barrett (Aimee), Sherry Fry (Joel), and Ronnie Jackson; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby (Brenda), Jerry (Joyce), Terry (Judy), and Steve (Pam) Barrett; sisters-in-law, Barbara Barrett and Beth Barrett; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Per Billy Joe’s wishes, there will be no formal service planned.
