A Maysville man is facing multiple charges following a high-speed chase and theft investigation in Banks County that began on April 17.
According to the Banks County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the Farm Bureau location after receiving reports of an entering auto incident in which several tools were allegedly stolen. Police say a second report of a similar incident was filed shortly thereafter.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the Farm Bureau and identified a gray Ford F-150 believed to be connected to the thefts. Authorities say surveillance efforts led authorities to locate the vehicle as it re-entered Banks County.
When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the suspect allegedly fled and led police on a pursuit. The chase ended after deputies performed a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver and brought the vehicle to a halt.
Following the arrest, investigators executed search warrants and allegedly recovered 25 of the 26 stolen items, with an estimated value of $40,000.
The suspect, 39-year-old Richard Hammett of Maysville, is facing numerous charges including two counts of entering auto, second-degree burglary, fleeing from law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and multiple firearm-related offenses. He is also charged with criminal damage to property in the second degree and a parole violation.
