Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brian Rickman is serving out his final days in the DA’s office. He was recently appointed to the Georgia Court of Appeals by Gov. Nathan Deal. Rickman will take his seat on the bench January 1, 2016.
Brian Rickman is one of three candidates chosen from among more than one hundred who applied for three new appellate court judgeships created by the Georgia legislature this year. He has served as DA for Habersham, Rabun and Stephens Counties since 2008. Rickman was originally appointed to that job by then governor Sonny Perdue when Mike Crawford retired.
Brian Rickman recently sat down with Now Habersham’s Tricia Hise to reflect on his eight years as DA. During their conversation he talked about how he hopes he’s remembered and spoke candidly about some of the high profile cases his office has handled.
Once Rickman is sworn in as judge, Mountain Judicial Circuit Chief Assistant District Attorney George Christian will succeed him as acting DA. The position will be opened for applications and Gov. Nathan Deal will then choose a successor. The position is up for reelection next year.
