Traffic stop leads to drug trafficking arrests in Hall, Madison Counties

(Hall County Sheriff's Office)

A recent investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Special Investigations Unit (SIU) resulted in the arrest of a Gainesville man on methamphetamine trafficking charges, leading to further arrests and drug seizures in Madison County.

Trevor Wade Southers, 24, was charged on March 20 with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute after HCSO deputies stopped an SUV for failing to maintain its lane at approximately 4:20 p.m. The traffic stop occurred at the intersection of Mundy Mill Road and Creekside Place in Hall County.

During the investigation, deputies discovered approximately 1,045 grams (2.3 pounds) of methamphetamine in the vehicle, with an estimated street value of $78,200. Southers, a passenger in the SUV, was identified as the owner of the drugs. SIU investigators subsequently took over the case.

As the investigation continued, SIU developed intelligence suggesting the presence of additional methamphetamine at a residence in Madison County. This information was shared with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), who then conducted their own investigation on the same day. MCSO investigators seized about four pounds of methamphetamine, several firearms, and cash, and made an arrest in the process.

Southers was arrested during the traffic stop and remained in the Hall County Jail without bond as of Thursday afternoon, March 27.

For details regarding the Madison County investigation, inquiries should be directed to the MCSO.
