In the heart of Clarkesville, Georgia, a new café is brewing something special—something steeped in rich history, cultural heritage, and a love for exceptional coffee. Myth & Legend, founded by Doug Cole and partners Eddie Wilson, Dave Jorgensen, Paul Raygor, and Tim Brennan, is set to open its doors in May 2025, offering more than just a place to grab a caffeine fix. It’s an experience that blends the legendary quality of specialty coffees with a dash of local flavor. The four-way stop promises to become a destination stop once again, located at 1084 Hollywood Hwy, in the former Cowboy Bob’s restaurant.
A bold new venture
Doug Cole and business partners are passionate about high-quality coffee and want to impact lives. This will be their fifth cafe to open since 2023. The name hints at the duality of the café: myth and legend are often stories passed down through generations, shaping cultures and communities. Similarly, Myth & Legend aims to become a cornerstone of Clarkesville — an area that blends small-town charm with a deep appreciation for local craft and culture.
There is more to the story than just coffee and pastries. Wilson started a non-profit that supplies clean water to needy areas of the world, feeds hungry children, builds and maintains orphanages, and helps others start businesses. It’s called Impact Others and is making progress globally to change lives.
Cole said the vision for Myth & Legend is clear – to create a space where great coffee isn’t just a beverage but a conversation starter. Whether it’s the unique blend of roasted beans, the welcoming atmosphere, or the stories told around the tables, Myth & Legend promises to be more than just your typical coffee shop.
Specialty coffee
What makes Myth & Legend stand out is the source of its coffee beans. Since 2019, Cole and his partners have been roasting at Because Coffee in Dawsonville, GA. One of their key direct partnerships in sourcing green coffee is with a Honduran farm, Finca Terrerito. This brings the rich, aromatic beans of Central America straight to Georgia. Honduras has long been known for producing some of the world’s best coffee, thanks to its rich volcanic soil, perfect growing conditions, and generations of skilled farmers.
“Giving an opportunity to the coffee farmers of Honduras is a driving force behind what we do,” Cole added, giving the impression of one who cares deeply about demonstrating his love of Christ and serving others. For many farmers, being able to sell beans directly and not through a middleman is the difference between being able to send their children to school and putting food on the table.
The coffee sourced from this region is known for its smooth, flavorful profile, which Cole and his team are excited to share with their customers. From the moment you walk into Myth & Legend, the scent of freshly ground coffee will wrap around you like a warm, comfy blanket, inviting you to stay awhile.
For Cole, this coffee connection goes beyond just business—it’s about bringing the unique flavors of coffee from all over the globe to the community and telling the story of the people behind the beans. Every cup of coffee at Myth & Legend is a tribute to coffee farmers and their families’ hard work, history, and tradition.
A Café with character
Formally known as Cowboy Bobs, a favorite for many in the community, Cole believes Myth & Legend will easily become the place to be. “They like to say there is a business ghost of a former establishment that can linger when a new restaurant moves in. So many people loved Cowboy Bob’s. We are starting out with good feelings,” Cole expressed.
With a touch of rustic and sleek design, the space is created to make you feel like you’re in the perfect place and at the right time. Whether you’re there for a quick cup of coffee or looking to linger over a leisurely conversation, Myth & Legend provides an ambiance that’s both comfortable and inspiring.
Cole sees the café as a hub—a place where people can come together to enjoy great coffee and the spirit of their community. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or a visitor passing through, Myth & Legend aims to be a welcoming stop for every one.
What to expect
At Myth & Legend, you can expect more than just coffee. The menu will feature a range of coffee drinks, from rich espressos to smooth lattes and seasonal specials highlighting the region’s flavors. You’ll also find an assortment of baked goods, including pastries that complement the coffee and add a touch of indulgence to your visit. And, just as Cowboy Bob delighted many with flavorful ice creams, Myth & Legend will have a wide variety that will make any hot summer day cool.
Cole plans to offer delicious breakfast and lunch options and wants to be open seven days a week. “We are also in the works to have Barbeque or wings. I can’t reveal exactly what we are considering, but it will be something everyone will love.”
The Grand Opening
Set to open in May of 2025, Cole couldn’t be more excited to welcome the Clarkesville community. The grand opening promises to be an event worth celebrating, with plenty of opportunities for locals to sample the café’s offerings and learn about the origins of their coffee.
Cole’s journey from idea to opening day has been fueled by a passion for both coffee and community. “I can’t say I always had a passion for coffee until I had this incredible cup at a street fair in Gary, Indiana,” he explained. “It was Schweik’s Good Soldier Blend from Metropolis Coffee. I was hooked. I jumped down the coffee geek rabbit hole & got into coffee. I started roasting coffee on my popcorn popper as a hobby, but I soon turned that into a side hustle when I bought a 3-pound air roaster.”
He’s eager to see Myth & Legend become a beloved gathering spot in Clarkesville, where locals can connect, unwind, sip on a cup of coffee, grab a bite for lunch, or enjoy some ice cream.
A new chapter for Clarkesville
Myth & Legend isn’t just about great coffee—it’s about creating a legacy, one cup at a time. With Doug Cole at the helm, this café is bound to become a cornerstone of Clarkesville’s vibrant community, a place where myths, legends, and a great cup of coffee (or two) come together in perfect harmony.
If you find yourself in the area, be sure to stop by Myth & Legend, where every cup creates a story between friends.
