In an effort to identify potentially dangerous intersections, another roundabout could be coming to Clarkesville through a federal grant.
Clarkesville and county officials are now looking at plans to bring improvements to at least two intersections within city limits through funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – a $500-plus billion spending package passed by Congress in 2021 – after Habersham County received federal money for a safety action plan.
A safety action plan, established by the discretionary grant program through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, provides local governments a roadmap for strategic roadway safety improvements.
Of two potential intersection improvements, planned in partnership with Georgia’s Department of Transportation, Clarkesville City Manager Keith Dickerson said one of those could include a roundabout at Rocky Branch Road and E. Louise Street in front of the Habersham County Administration Building.
Dickerson said a specific timeline for potential plans at that intersection aren’t yet known.
“The intersection of Rocky Branch and E. Louise definitely warrants a roundabout,” Dickerson said.
Joint intersections between the county and the city also could be studied on Double Bridge Road, according to Dickerson, who said the study will conclude by the end of the March.
