South Carolina residents face multiple charges after arrest in Franklin County

Two South Carolina residents are facing multiple charges, including narcotics possession and child cruelty, after an arrest in Franklin County earlier this week following a home invasion, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the incident began on the evening of Monday, Feb. 24, when Franklin County 911 Dispatch received a call reporting a home invasion on Highway 17 in Lavonia. In response, law enforcement from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Lavonia Police Department, and Georgia State Patrol quickly arrived on the scene.

Following an investigation, two South Carolina residents were charged with burglary (first degree) and cruelty to children (third degree). The caller was arrested and charged with possession of schedule I drugs with intent to distribute (THC oil), possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and cruelty to children (third degree).

On Tuesday, February 25, additional search warrants were executed at the location as part of the ongoing investigation.

During the searches, law enforcement seized firearms, cash, and a vehicle, along with additional narcotics. The new charges include possession of schedule I drugs with intent to distribute (psilocybin mushrooms), possession of schedule II drugs with intent to distribute (hydrocodone) and possession of schedule IV drugs (alprazolam).

Authorities indicate that more suspects and warrants may be involved as the investigation continues.
