Thursday night, it was announced via Rabun County football’s Twitter (X) account that Michael Davis had retired, stepping down as head coach.
The timing of the move is late in the football coaching cycle, as a number of programs have already tabbed their new coaches with time allotted to build a staff ahead of spring practice.
Davis was the offensive coordinator for the Wildcats in the 2021 season with Gunner Stockton’s senior year. He then took over in 2022, and held a 27-10 overall record with a region title (‘22), a pair of Quarterfinals (‘22, ‘23) and three playoff runs in as many seasons.
The Wildcats will now have to pivot quickly to name their third head coach since 2019.
