
Virginia Sanders, lovingly known as Mamaw, took her heavenly flight home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on September 13, 1939, in Clayton, GA, she was a cherished soul who touched the lives of many through her gentle spirit and unwavering love.
A devoted member of Hollywood Baptist Church, Virginia exemplified faith and kindness throughout her life. She had a fulfilling career at Scovill Manufacturing, where she dedicated 44 years of her life before retiring at the age of 62. After her retirement, Virginia found immense joy in caring for her beloved grandchildren, nurturing their spirits and instilling in them the values she cherished.
Virginia’s heart was vast, encompassing not only her immediate family but also her support and warmth extended to her friends and community. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Debby James Breland, Pam and David Ivester, and Judy and Ricky Barrett. She leaves behind a legacy in her grandchildren: Dylan and Ashley James, Beth and Brian Davis, Denver and Leann Ivester, Josh Barrett, Dustin Barrett, and her 11 great-grandchildren, who will forever hold her love close to their hearts.
Virginia was blessed with the companionship of her brothers, George Ellenburg and Leon Ellenburg, and her sisters, Kay Jo Moore and Pat Callenback, with whom she shared countless memories and cherished moments.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Alford and Estelle Gilstrap Ellenburg, and her beloved husband, Talvern Denver Sanders, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. Their bond was one of deep affection and partnership, and their love story continues to inspire those left behind.
Virginia’s passions included camping and traveling with her family by her side. She leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to shine bright in their lives.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, both held at McGahee-Griffin & McEntire Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Johnson and Rev. Mike McConnell officiating. Burial will follow the service in Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery.
