White County has promoted a longtime firefighter to a top position.

White County Public Safety announced the promotion of Josh Taylor to the rank of assistant chief in the Fire Services Division earlier this week.

A special pinning ceremony took place on February 20 at the White County Emergency Operations Center, where family, friends, colleagues and county officials gathered to honor Taylor’s career milestone.

Taylor’s journey with White County Fire Services began at the age of 15 when he joined the Fire Explorer program.

By 18, he advanced to a volunteer firefighter role, and in 2013, he became one of the county’s first career firefighters. Over the years, Taylor has steadily climbed the ranks, serving as shift captain in April 2020 and battalion chief of administration in November 2021.

David Murphy, White County’s director of public safety, praised Taylor for his dedication and leadership.

“Chief Taylor has been a dedicated leader whose passion for service and training has strengthened White County Fire Services,” he said. “His professionalism and vision for the future of the department make him the right person for this role. I look forward to seeing him continue to lead and make a lasting impact.”

As assistant chief, Taylor will focus on operations and training, working to further elevate the department’s preparedness and ensuring firefighters receive high-quality training. Officials say his leadership will be pivotal in maintaining White County’s emergency services for both residents and visitors.

A lifelong resident of White County, Taylor resides in the Leaf Community with his wife, Taylor, and their three children. Officials say his dedication to the department and its growth is evident in his years of service, which have shaped the future of White County Fire Services.
