The father of the 14-year-old boy charged with carrying out the deadly shooting at Apalachee High School last year has been granted bond.

Colin Gray pleaded not guilty to 29 counts against him in a rare case of a parent being charged after a school shooting.

While acknowledging the unusual nature of the case, Barrow County Superior Court Judge Nicholas Prim said he was required to consider whether Gray was a flight risk, among other factors, in his request for bond.

Prim said there was no indication that Gray was a flight risk.

“So weighing all of these considerations, I believe that it is, one, required to give a bond,” Prim said. “But two, given the extraordinary nature of the case and the other factors that it needs to be a high bond.”

He set Gray’s bond at half a million dollars.
