As reported by Now Habersham on Wednesday, Feb. 12, a Banks County man has been charged in connection with the disappearance of a woman who was reported missing in January.
According to the Banks County Sheriff’s Office, the missing woman’s son, Jason Christopher Campbell, 34, has been charged with concealing the death of his mother Marie Campbell, 62. Marie Campbell, who lived with Jason Campbell in Banks County, was reported missing on Jan. 6.
On Jan. 8, a Banks County deputy spoke with Jason Campbell and was told his mother was “picked up from the residence” on Bennett Road in Homer “by an unknown subject” three days before, according to police, and that he had not heard from her since.
The police report states Marie Campbell’s vehicle had remained parked in front of the house since Jan. 5.
At one point in the investigation, according to the report, Jason Campbell told deputies he’d called 911 on Jan. 7 to report his mother had been “abducted by aliens.” That call was later confirmed by police.
Authorities say deputies later discovered a “small fire” in the backyard of a residence and observed what appeared to be a burned mattress.
Deputies then investigated a vehicle on the property and allegedly found the middle driver’s seat “either missing or laid down” with a mud-covered sheet over it, according to the report.
“This meticulous investigation, led by our investigators and forensic unit, remains ongoing. Additional details will be released as they become available,” Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed said Wednesday.
As reported by Now Habersham on Feb. 10, a search had been organized to help locate Marie Campbell. Now Habersham has reached out to the organizers to confirm whether the search will still take place this weekend as planned.
