An explosive device was found during a traffic stop in Stephens County Friday night, prompting a multi-agency response for containment.
Around 10 p.m., while conducting a routine traffic stop in the Ingles/Belk parking lot near South State Bank on Friday, Feb. 7, officers discovered what appeared to be a small improvised explosive device (IED).
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office said the GBI’s Bomb Disposal Unit was deployed to the scene, and authorities were able to “safely contain and detonate the device.”
Police say no other explosive devices were located in the vehicle, and the scene was determined to be safe.
The sheriff’s office said more details will be released pending further investigation.
