Banks County courts have implemented a new way for those convicted of DUIs to pay for their crimes.
Just this week, the Banks County Probate Court announced plans to require individuals with DUI or reckless driving convictions to purchase new and approved car seats in their original, sealed box.
The new measure aims to address the growing need for child safety seats while lifting financial burdens off local taxpayers, according to authorities.
“There’s a need for it, and we found a way to provide the need without burdening our taxpayers,” Probate Judge Cameron Boswell said.
The Banks County Sheriff’s Office will distribute safe and reliable seats purchased by offenders to those in need.
“Ensuring the safety of children is a priority for us in Banks County. This initiative not only addresses the critical need for child safety seats but also reinforces personal responsibility,” Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed.
The car seats are designed to provide long-lasting protection from infancy through toddlerhood and to prevent child injury in the event of an accident.
