U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff released a statement today following his vote to confirm former Georgia Congressman Doug Collins as the next Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA). Collins was confirmed by the Senate with a 77-23 vote.

“I congratulate Congressman Collins on his confirmation as our next VA Secretary and look forward to working with him to ensure Georgia’s veterans receive the care, support, and respect they’ve earned,” Ossoff said.

Ossoff, who serves as the Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, has a critical role in overseeing the VA’s budget. In his confirmation process, he met with Collins to discuss priorities aimed at improving the VA system for Georgia’s veterans, particularly focusing on reducing wait times for community care appointments, strengthening mental health services, and expanding access to benefits in underserved areas.

Since taking office, he has been a strong advocate for Georgia’s veterans, working on bipartisan efforts to support them. Notable achievements include passing legislation to clear the backlog of veterans’ records requests, expanding mental health care services, and extending VA health benefits for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans through the PACT Act.

In his recent work, Ossoff responded to concerns from Georgia veterans about delays in the U.S. Postal Service’s delivery of prescriptions and appointment notices. He has urged USPS to take immediate action to ensure that veterans receive their medications and important VA documents in a timely manner.

Elected in 2021, Ossoff serves as Georgia’s Senior U.S. Senator and holds seats on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Select Committee on Intelligence, and Rules Committee.
