Barrow County has chosen a former deputy commissioner for the Georgia Department of Labor to guide economic development.
The Barrow Braselton Joint Economic Development Authority (BBJEDA) has selected Mike Coan, a seasoned senior executive with the State of Georgia, to lead economic development efforts in Barrow County.

“Mike is an excellent candidate to serve as the next economic development director of BBJEDA,” Yamala said. “His expertise in building effective relationships and serving diverse clients and stakeholders will be an asset to the authority. As Barrow County continues to grow, it is critically important that someone like Mike be available to implement the economic development plan and to work closely with our existing and new industries.”
Coan currently serves as the executive director for the Georgia State Election Board and previously served as the deputy commissioner for the Georgia Department of Labor.
“I am very excited to join the BBJEDA team,” Coan said. “I look forward to working with Barrow County, its municipalities, and other partners to create a strong and economically centered community.”
Coan holds a bachelor’s degree in Management from the University of West Georgia. He also serves on the Chairman’s Advisory Council for Workers’ Compensation and is a former member of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Coan will begin his role on February 5.
