The new Traditions Bank building in Clarkesville is nearing completion. Clarkesville Market Executive and Project Manager for Traditions Bank Sidney Roland has been overseeing the project for nearly a year. “We have been very pleased with the progress so far,” Roland said Thursday morning.
Traditions Bank, based out of Rabun County, broke ground for the Clarkesville branch in May of 2024. This will be the second branch in Habersham County.

The bank is located at the intersection of GA 17 and GA 197 on part of the property that was once owned by Stoney’s Family Restaurant. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) took most of the corner of the property to begin construction for a roundabout at that location. However, the roundabout project has seen numerous delays and is not expected to begin construction until late 2025 or early 2026.
When asked about the effects of the roundabout and the new bank, Roland said that the bank’s engineers have been in constant communication with GDOT before and during construction to ensure that there were no issues as they proceeded.
Over the last few weeks, the weather has not been ideal for construction. However, construction continued on the property. Roland hopes to have the central heat operational over the next few days so they can begin finishing work on the inside. Also, the weather forecast over the next week will help with construction efforts with day time temperatures approaching 70 degrees for several days.
According to Roland, opening day is fast approaching. “The branch should be completed the first week of March and we are looking to open mid-March if everything falls into place.”
