Gas prices across the state have remained more or less unchanged, according to auto group AAA.
The average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia has remained steady this week, holding at $2.96 per gallon. This marks no change from last Monday’s price, but it’s 6 cents higher than a month ago and 6 cents lower than this time last year.
For drivers filling a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the average cost is now $44.40 – almost a dollar less than what Georgians were paying at the pump a year ago.
“Surging oil reserves within the U.S. and uncertainty surrounding the nation’s energy strategies are easing fuel costs in some regions, yet nudging them upward slightly in others,” AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said.
National Gas Prices: Modest Jump at the Pump
Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline has remained stable at $3.12 since last Monday (subject to change overnight). Although easing oil costs and lower domestic gasoline demand have helped keep prices in check, some U.S. regions have still seen slight increases at the pump.
According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand has fallen from 8.32 million barrels a day last week to 8.08 million, while domestic gasoline stocks have risen slightly, from 243.6 million barrels to 245.9 million. At the same time, gasoline production has decreased, averaging 9.2 million barrels per day.
Oil Market Dynamics
In oil market news, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices closed at $75.44 a barrel last Wednesday, down 39 cents from the previous session. The EIA reports that U.S. crude oil inventories dropped by 1.0 million barrels, bringing the total to 411.7 million barrels—about 6% below the five-year average for this time of year.
