James Braxton Purdy

James Braxton Purdy, age 79, of Alto, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 18, 2025.

A lifelong native of Alto, Georgia, he was born on April 26, 1945, a son of the late Willie Braxton “Brac” & Monteen Roberts Purdy. James was a graduate of South Habersham High School, Class of 1963. He was currently employed as a custodian with Habersham County Schools. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, yard sales, estate sales, tinkering with old cars, and small engine repairs. James was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. Most of all, he loved his family tremendously. James attended Alto Congregational Holiness Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Janell Ballew Purdy; sons & daughter-in-law, Tommy Dean & Cindy Purdy; Terry Lee Purdy, all of Alto, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Tonya Renee & Kenneth Kimbrell of Cornelia, GA; brother, Willard Purdy of Commerce, GA; sister, Jane Ellen Bates of Lula, GA; grandchildren, Autumn Purdy, Victoria & Ethan Franklin, Austin Smith, & Addie Smith; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, & friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire, with Rev. Scott Ledbetter officiating. Interment will follow in the Alto Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the service hour on Monday, January 20, 2025.
