The holidays kick into high gear in Northeast Georgia this weekend with parades and festivals.

In White County, Cleveland is preparing to host its popular Christmas in the Mountains celebration. Sponsored by the White County Chamber of Commerce and the city of Cleveland, this annual event is set to take place on Saturday, December 7. It will feature a Holiday Market, Christmas tree lighting, and a lighted parade.

The Market will run from noon until 7 p.m. on the Cleveland Courthouse Square.

Between 1:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, kids can get free photos with Santa at the White County Chamber of Commerce office at 122 North Main Street.

At dusk (around 5:30 p.m.), the town will light up the Freedom Park Christmas tree at 66 East Kytle Street/Hwy. 115. Immediately following the tree lighting, grab a spot downtown to watch the popular Lighted Christmas Parade. The parade begins at 6 p.m. from Jack P. Nix Elementary School at 342 West Kytle Street/ Hwy. 115. It will travel around the courthouse square, north to Old Blairsville Road, and end at White County Middle School.

Chamber officials say there’s a large lineup in this year’s parade. Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing, so bundle up warm if you attend this weekend’s festivities.
