A chicken house in Hall County burned to the ground before fire crews arrived on Monday, Dec. 2, killing nearly 19,000 baby chicks.
At 10 p.m., Hall County Fire Rescue responded to the 4100 block of East Hall Road for reports of a woods fire. The chicken house was fully-involved and had already burned to the ground, according to Hall County fire officials.
There were approximately 18,800 chicks inside the chicken house, says HCFR spokesperson Kimberlie Ledsinger.
Crews battled the flames and shuttled water to the scene for about two hours to prevent the fire from spreading.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation by the Hall County Fire Marshal’s Office.
