Right Bite Diabetes Cooking School teaches the “right” way to select and prepare food for people affected by diabetes. Whether it is for you or a family member, this award-winning education program demonstrates how to prepare healthy foods to control diabetes. It is offered by the Habersham County Extension Office.

“Good nutrition has been recognized as one of the cornerstones of diabetes self-management,” according to Dr. Ali Berg, Extension nutrition and health specialist with the University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences. “Also, the risk for the complications of diabetes can be reduced when people make healthy food choices and prepare their food with less fat, salt, and sugar.”

The Right Bite Diabetes Cooking School will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 7 at the Habersham County Extension office located at 555 Monroe St, in Clarkesville, GA.

The classes will meet weekly through November 21. Susie Burton Medina, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent in Habersham and Banks is the instructor for the classes. Each session will feature a brief presentation on some aspect of nutrition management of diabetes along with the opportunity for participants to get hands-on experience preparing recipes that reinforce the concepts discussed.

There is no cost to attend, but please preregister. You can also contact the Habersham County Extension Office at 706-754-2318 or email [email protected]. If you need reasonable accommodations or language access services, contact at least one week before the program date.
