JACKSON, Miss. – Senior Walker Capelle capped off an incredible season, becoming the first ever Piedmont Men’s Cross Country Individual Champion in the CCS.

Capelle was able to best teammate Layton Bradford by just over 10 seconds as Piedmont held the top two finishers and took second place overall in the championship.

Putting four runners in the top 10, Covenant was able to sneak past the Lions and take the team title.

One race after setting a new PR and the school record in the 8k, Capelle came up short of that mark, but it was more than enough to allow him to cross the finish line first.

Bradford earned a runner-up finish for the second consecutive season, but improved by over a minute from his time at the 2023 CCS Championship.

Another senior cracked the top 10, as Tucker Cox took eighth place with a time of 28:11.60.

Under a minute later, Grady Sanders came to the finish line in 16th, followed by Parker Snelson in 19th to give the Lions five runners in the top 20 of the event.

Seniors Jadon Gonzales (22nd) and Keshawn Maxwell (23rd) were within 15 seconds of each other while reigning CCS Rookie of the Week Brody Geckler finished in 29:50.81 for a 27th place finish.

Keegan Ivey (40th), Sammy Maddox (44th), Peter Slight (47th), Lance Morley (52nd) and David Moore (53rd) rounded out the Piedmont finishers.
