A 78-year-old Clarkesville man is charged with second-degree vehicular homicide in the death of his friend.
Authorities say Jerry Neal was driving a 1937 Chevrolet pickup truck south on Highway 115 when the truck ran off the road and struck a ditch. A passenger in the truck, 73-year-old Larry Hart of Toccoa, was ejected and died at the scene, according to the Georgia State Patrol, which investigated the wreck.
The May 31 wreck near Crestview Road in Clarkesville seriously injured Neal, who was rushed to the hospital. Following his recovery, deputies arrested him on Oct. 23. In addition to vehicular homicide, they charged him with failure to maintain lane.
Online jail records show Neal was released from the Habersham County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
