Georgia saw a significant early voter turnout, with over 4 million active registered voters casting their ballots before Election Day, according to data from the Georgia Election Data Hub. This represents over 55% of the state’s 7.2 million registered voters.
Early voting in Georgia concluded on Friday, November 1. Of the total early votes, 3.7 million were cast in person, while approximately 242,000 mail-in ballots were received and accepted.
Northeast Georgia turnout
Northeast Georgia counties dominated the early voter turnout charts. Towns County led the state with a 72.1% turnout rate, followed by Oconee County at 70.55%. Dawson, Forsyth, Rabun, Union, Lumpkin, Habersham, Jackson, and Stephens counties are among the two dozen top early-voting counties in the state.
Habersham County reported a 62.83% turnout, with 19,444 ballots cast out of 30,663 registered voters. Rabun County saw 9,102 of its 13,355 registered voters cast early ballots, while in Stephens County, 11,302 out of 18,763 registered voters participated in early voting.
While not in the top 24, White County achieved a notable voter turnout of just over 59.2%.
Absentees and Election Day
As for absentee ballots, Georgia voters requested 343,498 mail-in ballots, of which 241,907 had been returned and accepted by the end of early voting. Voters can track their absentee ballots through Georgia’s My Voter Page on the Secretary of State’s website.
For those voting absentee by mail, ballots must be received by the county registrar’s office before polls close on Election Day to be counted. Voters are encouraged to deliver their ballots in person or through a designated family member if mailing at this point is unlikely to ensure timely delivery.
For Election Day voting, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters must cast their ballots at their designated precincts, which can be confirmed through the state’s My Voter Page.
