Guy Edward “Cigar” Wood, age 85 of Demorest, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
Born on October 6, 1939, in Madison County, he was a son of the late Dewey and Julia Davis Wood. Guy was formerly employed with Habersham County School System, where he worked in maintenance. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, building bird houses, being outdoors, and watching the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his animals. He was of the Church of God faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Onie Irene Smith Wood; brother, Herman Wood; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Lucille Wood; sister and brother-in-law, Blondine and Frank Nelms.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Jason and Krissy Wood, and Shane Wood all of Demorest; daughters, Gail Wood Williams of Demorest and Amanda Flanagan of Gainesville; grandchildren, Lee Williams (J.D.), Kim Williams (Melissa), Courtney Carpenter (Austin), Caleb Wood (Lindsey), Aaron Wood (Allison), Braden Wood, Trace Wood, Madison Wood Sloan (Doug), Megan Flanagan, Morgan Flanagan, and Macey Flanagan; great grandchildren, Layla Carpenter, Luke Wood, Porter Wood, Paislee Gerrin, Kreed Wood, Gatlin Wood, Haven Wood, Ezmae Sloan, Styles Goguen, Kierstyn Goguen, Kennedy Stammer, and Aveion McConnell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Mary Wood, and Paul and Elaine Wood; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and James Gunn; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are 2 pm on Monday, November 4, 2024, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. James Gunn officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the funeral home.
