DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont University men’s soccer team dropped its final regular season contest to the Scots of Maryville by a score of 2-1. A late goal for the Scots proved to be the deciding factor in the game.

In a back-and-forth first half, the Lions and Scots traded opportunities with neither team being able to find the back of the net. Piedmont held the slight edge in shots, 7-4, while keeper Chase Johnson made the only save required from him in the first 45.

Finally breaking through, sophomore Davis Knight opened the scoring in the contest in the 57th minute of action. Junior Colin Vogel linked up with Piedmont’s leading goal scorer just inside the six-yard box to give his squad a 1-0 lead.

The momentum was short-lived as Maryville put away the equalizer just minutes later in the 60th. With the momentum in hand, the Scots took advantage of a back line blunder from the Lions and took the lead 2-1.

Despite late pressure and a last-second chance, Piedmont was not able to level the score line, and the contest finished in favor of the visitors.

Up next, Piedmont awaits the results of the remaining games around the conference to see where they travel for the First Round of the Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament.
