The leaves are changing, bringing with it crisp, cool air, hues of red, orange and yellow, apples, and the scents of pumpkin lattes and cider. Autumn is my favorite time of year. The sound of marching bands, referee whistles, and pencil sharpeners, all remind me that life is changing. The earth is coming into a new season.
Our lives are very similar to the changing colors of nature. Cycles come and go. We enter times of harvest and times of waiting. We experience times of brightness and color, and we have times of greyness and darkness. We have days filled with joy and hope, and days filled with loneliness and isolation.
Ecclesiastes 3:11: “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
Seasons in life come just as seasons in nature. Nothing stays the same. No two days are ever alike. There are periods when we feel productive and useful and other times when we wonder if we even have a purpose in life.
My dad often reminds me, the one constant in life is change.
There are times when change is welcomed. At other times, it can be frightening and the last thing we want. Change comes when it desires and never considers the chaotic emotions it can cause.
What we do with the changes in our lives is what really matters. Some of you may be entering a time that is exciting and new; others may be entering rough, troubled periods. No matter what is happening in your life right now, trust that God is there. Just as He knows and understands the beauty of the earthly seasons, He knows and understands the beauty of your life.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-10:
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
Our lives are in His hands. Know that in due time, God will bring it all together. Trust in Him.
